ABSTRACT

The modernization of Chinese began in the first decade of the twentieth century and took shape in the early 1930s with the strong impetus of the May Fourth New Culture Movement. The important symbol of Chinese modernization is the consistency of language and writing, which needs the basis of words. From the perspective of words, this chapter discusses the essence from the transformation of Chinese to the consistency of words and prose. This paper holds that it is necessary to study Chinese from the perspective of the modern reconstruction of its vocabulary system, because the modernity of a language is determined by the modernity of its words.
