ABSTRACT

The new concept of the foreign policy of the Russian Federation approved by President of the Russian Federation V. Putin on 30 November 2016 identifies the main priorities and objectives of the foreign policy of Russia. In the opinion of Russian analysts, Russia's economic and political advantage in the Asia-Pacific region is a prerequisite for its internal stability and international competitiveness. As regards Russia, China and India will be crucial for stability in Afghanistan after the withdrawal of US and NATO troops, as well as the balance of political forces that are most likely to fight for power in Afghanistan. The relationship between the two major Asian powers traditionally determines the level of stability and security in the Eurasian geopolitical space. If Russia, India and China begin to frame the discussion about Afghanistan in counterterrorism terms, that would inevitably involve Pakistan.
