ABSTRACT

Islam’s Jesus is everywhere the inspirational fountainhead for the intellectuals of the Islamic Awakening. In their writings and speeches, he is consistently evoked through a surrogate, Abu Dharr al Ghifari. This beloved companion of the Prophet Muhammad makes palpable the presence of Islam’s Jesus and evokes the piety, kindness, and supreme Islamic value of righteous struggle for worldly justice that he stands for. To walk with Abu Dharr, as this essay does, is to walk hand in hand with Islam’s Jesus. To do so is to reveal the unseen in the Islamic Awakening.
