ABSTRACT
This chapter traces the development of the author’s research agenda on the politics of the Arabian Peninsula/Persian Gulf region in light of the two research programs in which he has worked: the political effects of great oil wealth on the domestic politics of the monarchical states of the Arabian Peninsula and the international relations of the Arabian Peninsula/Persian Gulf region. A review of the literature and the salient debates in each of those research programs is provided.
