ABSTRACT

Any kind of food, cooked or raw, could be used as a trigger, as well as cooking equipment such as a large mixing bowl, jam and pickling jars, old-style can opener, hand whisk, enamel jug, bun tins and cases. Advertising pictures are available in old magazines that show old-fashioned cookers and food brands. Some family and institutional settings would have a set menu with each day of the week associated with a particular food. An internet search can reveal several video clips from the past of advertisements for food, drinks and sweets, as well as some better known shops. The degree to which cooking is central to home life varies from family to family and between group homes. Some people may live in homes where no cooking is ever done from basic ingredients, while others have experience of growing their own vegetables or keeping chickens for their eggs.
