ABSTRACT

Memorabilia might include photos or models of charabancs, trams, old cars, bikes and motorbikes, as well as steam and diesel trains, aeroplanes, ferries and ships, and horse-drawn vehicles. People are allowed to name as many different forms of transport as they can as part of an opening discussion. The appropriate picture or model is put on the table as it is named and then a discussion is led about people’s experiences of each form of transport. For some group members the interest may lie in the vehicle itself, but others may be indifferent to these, being more interested in them as a means of transport connected to memories of particular events or trips. The group memories of the trip are recorded on a digital voice recorder, including as many details as possible of the journey and all that was seen.
