ABSTRACT

Where a selection of perfumes are used to evoke memories through the sense of smell, these should be presented separately, with a period of at least five minutes between each perfume and no more than three different scents used within a session-otherwise the sense of smell can become overloaded and people will not be able to distinguish one smell from another. Pictures of clothing for each decade from the 1940s onwards is found, and music of the era is matched to the different fashions. Older group members may have memories of having a bath once a week (or less often) and of this being a major occasion, with water having to be heated and transferred to a tub, which stood in the kitchen or sometimes in the yard, and everyone taking turns to use the water, which was topped up with each new bather.
