ABSTRACT

M. Yuk and S. Diamond noted that institutions which employ interactive data visualizations promote individual data exploration and encourage collaboration based on a shared understanding of the data. Good data structures should facilitate navigation to a response as simply as GPS to a destination. GPS itself is an interactive visualization; it provides immediate and intuitive results in a visually engaging manner. Specifically, visualized reports viewed through the lens of Bloom's taxonomy provide the framework for how well-constructed visualized data facilitate multifaceted hierarchical learning for the end user. As higher education practitioners, the authors are bombarded with data reports on a daily basis. In response to associated federal accountability requirements, every Title IV funded institution is required by the Department of Education to disclose its annual retention and graduation outcomes. Visualizing data allows data developers to meet consumers at a common point of expectation, fostering data use.
