ABSTRACT

The mentee, who is new to the role of Rugby Talent Development Coach, seeks a trusted mentor to guide him through his transition to this demanding role. Ultan, the Provincial Head of Rugby Development, is his ‘found’ mentor. Mentor and mentee move through the stages of ROSA (Chambers, 2009, 2015). This is a four-stage relationship building process: Reconnaissance, Open Consultation, Shared Language, and Active Negotiated Meaning, which uses double-loop learning (Argyris, 1976) as an inherent strategy. In this chapter, the focus is on the first two phases of ROSA, which leads to the establishment of a firm mentor-mentee relationship.
