ABSTRACT

The initial group of individuals who worked with Mariana Boneo and John Reilly includes many names who are very actively involved with National Association for Providers of Activities (NAPA) work. In contrast, one suspects that some home owners see activity organisers as entertainers, and are far less persuaded of the need for such staff to plan activities as an integral part of the care package. The concepts of therapeutic intervention and purposeful activity are what drive occupational therapy. Work with older, frail people has to be one of the principal areas of engagement for the occupational therapist profession. Most significantly for the fledgling profession, it is this document that sets out NAPA's view on the way activity provision should be resourced. Within the field of training lies another of NAPA's major achievements: the development of nationally recognised accredited training for the activity coordinator.
