ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author illustrates why care services can be so much better and so much more alive with good activity provision, and why persons in care can blossom when occupation really means everyone being committed towards a shared purpose. If a manager has no belief in the power of occupation as an effective medium in care, then no amount of persuasion from a junior staff member or a senior board member is going to make the slightest difference. The key person in the creation and maintenance of a good inclusive activity care system is home manager. For managers truly believe in activity provision, they need to understand the critical therapeutic benefits for both residents and staff that inclusive activity provision brings. The author shows how applying the same quality-related work ethic he have learned will lead positive influence, which for the author has created award-winning teams and satisfied customers across a number of care establishments and care disciplines.
