ABSTRACT

The growing trend in technology-mediated organisational learning has led to a new world of e-learning and development (e-L&D). This includes a fundamental shift at the conceptual level from training to learning with an emphasis on collaborative and curated learning experiences. Innovations in big data and analytics have created new capabilities for organisations to optimise learning and performance, thus, empowering trainers to go beyond their previous roles of monitoring participation to predicting performance outcomes. This chapter addresses these issues and discusses the advantages and disadvantages of important e-learning methods, including online learning, social media, MOOCs, e-mentoring, mobile learning and wearables. Factors that impact the successful implementation of e-L&D systems in organisations are also discussed.
