ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the historic and future urban growth trends of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in relation to the transportation demand, and analyzes them in order to detect possible travel trends that would encourage further transit developments in the new Capital District. This chapter also analyzes the possible effect of fluctuating fuel prices on Abu Dhabi’s public transit demand. In addition, the study looks at a number of congestion pricing schemes that could encourage Abu Dhabi vehicle users to use public transit modes.
