ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the unique case of TOTVS, a Brazilian supplier of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), a software tool designed to automate business processes. TOTVS has been able to access different funding sources to support its rapid growth, including an initial public offering (IPO) and recurrent financial support from the national development bank. The ERP system is composed of several business management modules. The fast growing path pursued by TOTVS in the last 15 years was supported by a combination of seven persistent corporative, technical, financial and marketing strategies. In 2013, TOTVS launched new technological platform oriented to integrate business processes, data and identity management. Technological coordination of a platform shared by wide network of customers, franchisees, distributors and development centers generates opportunities for obtaining network economies. Since the establishment of new company name, brand-building is one of the pillars of TOTVS business strategy. The alignment between public policies and business strategies is an essential element for economic development.
