ABSTRACT

The U.S. Department Agriculture’s Rural Housing Service has a number of programs to finance rural home purchase and repair, rural rental housing development and rental assistance, and critical community facilities and infrastructure. Together, these programs have leveraged billions of dollars to serve millions of rural residents. A variety of opportunities and challenges remain to effectively meeting rural housing needs with existing programs, including changes in the populations and places being served, as well as how to effectively preserve and expand affordable rental housing and access to credit for home purchase and rental construction.
