ABSTRACT

Bug-in-the-ear (BITE) technology is an efficient modality of technology to address the increased need for qualified personnel to implement assessments and interventions. BITE technology serves as a way for consultants to provide continuous instructions and immediate feedback during training sessions. This ability for real-time, discrete communication is a unique benefit of BITE when compared to other types of technology used for consultation (e.g., videoconferencing). The use of BITE for training and consultation has shown to be effective for varying consultees (e.g., therapists and parents) across a variety of settings (e.g., classrooms and residential facilities). This chapter will elaborate on the strengths and weaknesses of this modality of consultation, as well as practical and ethical considerations for its use in practice.
