ABSTRACT

Continuing from the content described in the previous chapter, this chapter provides a brief overview of telehealth laws and regulations in the United States and then focuses on telesupervision, which is a special application of telehealth. Our topic is particularly important for practitioners who plan to use telesupervision during their practice to ensure compliance with all relevant guideless and to optimize their services. Consistent with the aims of this volume, we emphasize telesupervision for school-based practitioners. Given the novelty of this topic, the research literature is limited; therefore, we integrate findings from a range of related professions, including medicine, school psychology, counseling psychology, psychiatry, and social work. This chapter explores critical issues when developing the infrastructure to provide supervision or mentoring to remote, isolated locations, or locations with few practicing peers, for the purpose of professional mentoring and consultation.
