ABSTRACT

Danielle gets up to go to the bathroom down the hall. On her way there she notices that many of the doors on the floor are open and people in several of the rooms she passes are engaging in the same routine as her roommate Chris. Danielle and Mary have a lot in common and become fast friends, often staying up late talking about issues related to negotiating relationships and classes and family problems as young women in recovery. While there is no one-size-fits-all model for recovery programs, it is important to differentiate between collegiate recovery programs and collegiate recovery communities. The CRP is still a fairly new phenomenon in the continuum of care, so standards of care and best practices are still being developed. Twelve-step programs are one of the most misunderstood and underutilized peer support networks. The focus of early recovery is on abstinence and getting through each day without using substances.
