ABSTRACT
The idea that economics can be conducted in a purely descriptive mode is dead and alive at the same time. The discourse on the performativity of economics documents a rich set of examples where theory has contributed to form economic reality. With this contribution we would like to introduce the idea of a transformative economic science, a mode of scientific inquiry that is conscious about its potential impact on the society and sensitive about its societal context.
