ABSTRACT

The chapter explains the rationale behind an approach to teaching economics that is based on the confrontation of dissenting views. The approach is intended for adult readers other than specialized students of economics and hinges on the confrontation of two contradictory discourses – typically a position of economic liberalism on the one hand and a critical position on the other hand. Like lawyers in a courtroom, both sides of a debate present their views and models in the best possible way and advocate for their position. The approach radically differs from conventional manuals and corresponds to the requirements of constructivist teaching methodology emphasizing the relativity of any theorization attempt.
