ABSTRACT

The main purpose of the chapter is to show how modern critical political economy perspectives can be applied within a multi-paradigmatic approach to economics. An approach in philosophy of science is presented which allows understanding why there are alternative paradigms in economics. In order to facilitate the understanding of the differences between the paradigms and their respective economic policy implications, this chapter focusses on critical political economy and discusses specific economic issues. This makes the implications of different paradigms transparent and allows for a better understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of each approach.
