ABSTRACT

This chapter is devoted to metaphor in translation, with a particular focus on cognitive aspects. It introduces conceptual metaphor theory and presents some of its key findings in respect of cognition, language and culture. It then illustrates some of the core issues of research in Translation Studies. Special attention is given to translation process research, which investigates, for example, the processing of metaphor in text comprehension, degrees of difficulty and cognitive load in metaphor translation. It then illustrates multi-method approaches in investigating metaphor in translation and in translation-related tasks. The chapter concludes with some implications for future research.
