ABSTRACT
This chapter examines the extent to which young people qualifying from the educational system in Ireland had a greater or lesser exposure to unstable employment following the Great Recession. The research found that the rise in the incidence of temporary employment between 2006 and 2012 has resulted in it becoming almost mainstreamed to the extent that almost no particular group (e.g. less educated, etc.) is the most susceptible. A concerning finding from the analysis is that obtaining a third-level qualification did not buffer against temporary employment for young new labour market entrants either pre or post the Great Recession.
