ABSTRACT
Capmany’s visceral defense of all things Spanish influenced his discourse. In this chapter, I analyze the evolution in his thinking on a topic that holds an important place in his writings: the relation between the idea of modernity and the concept of value. I attempt not only to explain the factors that justify his change in perspective in that regard, but also to contribute to a better understanding of the origins of Spanish Romanticism.
