ABSTRACT

This chapter presents activity for students to connect the purpose of the course to the context of their own life on an individual, interpersonal, and political level. This activity is intended to be completed during the first few classes and pairs well with reviewing the syllabus. It will be most effective if some level of trust has already started to form within the group before starting this activity. In additional to affirming student experiences as a source of knowledge, students will be guided to identify whose voices and experiences they have not been exposed to or have been minimally exposed to in relation to the course content. Students will reflect on whose voices and experiences are not represented in the classroom and how those missing voices might impact their educational experience.
