ABSTRACT

This chapter presents activity to help students explore their individual sociopolitical relationship to privilege and oppression on various identity factors. It explores how personal intersections of privilege and oppression impact their lived experiences and their subsequent counseling work, and identifies the privileged group among various identity factors. The chapter also identifies students’ own statuses across intersecting identity factors, and determines if those statuses are privileged or oppressed. This activity can be utilized in a classroom, group supervision, or triadic supervision. Participants will need a writing utensil and writing surface. Facilitator will need to provide worksheets and have a large writing surface, such as a whiteboard.
