ABSTRACT

This chapter is about a project that calls for students to interview someone from any marginalized population, present in class the content of the interview, and enact stories of the interviewee. The goal of the activity is to understand the lived experiences of marginalized populations and recreate an alternate outcome to unjust experiences. It can be utilized with high school students to graduate students. The activity Increases awareness of the experiences of individuals from a variety of cultures. It develops a clearer understanding of common microaggression experiences by marginalized populations daily. Students can brainstorm ways to create justice in an unjust society. The activity increases empathy for marginalized populations through acting out the experiences of marginalized populations. It explores preconceived expectations of marginalized populations and understand that each person does not represent the marginalized population but that each person has their own unique perspectives.
