ABSTRACT

Guided imagery, sometimes called visualization, can provide counseling professionals with a unique opportunity to experience psychological and physical responses to a potential situation. Guided imagery guidelines are provided to tailor activities to unique work settings and populations. This chapter aims to increase perspective taking via responses to the activity. It addresses societal concerns and career issues of marginalized populations. The chapter examines barriers and career resiliency needs during the career/job counseling process with members of a marginalized population. The activity should take place in a quiet room free of distractions. Chairs that accommodate all participants should not be restrictive to size or height. Facilitators are encouraged to connect participants’ responses to career theories and barriers to employment for clients of color and other populations.
