ABSTRACT

Using ecological theory to cultivate trainee and client awareness of environmental influencers of individual development. A counselor or supervisor may utilize the activity individually or in a dyad. A counselor educator may utilize this activity in a class by having students complete and share with a partner. Additionally, this activity may be completed as an individual assignment, then brought to a class or group to share with peers. Ecological systems describe a set of nested structures where the developing person interacts within their environment. The systems are organized in four circles within each other. From the innermost to outermost, the systems are the microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem, and macrosystem. A counselor educator may utilize this activity in a class by having students complete and share with a partner. Additionally, this activity may be completed as an individual assignment, then brought to a class or group to share with peers.
