ABSTRACT

The goal of the activity is to observe how perceptions, oppressions, and biases toward people of various groups influence available treatment. After the activity, the class will discuss how service providers approached each client, addressed presenting problems, and attempted to treat psychological and emotional needs of clients. Increase awareness of and education on addiction treatment toward diverse populations. Increase awareness of personal and general biases toward various demographic groups. Students will need a minimum of two weeks to conduct research on their history of addiction treatment approaches for people within the selected population and time period. The instructor should write each target population and each time period on individual index or note cards. Target populations and time periods should be separated into two piles of cards. Students should pick one card from each pile to determine which population and time period they are assigned.
