ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts covered in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book discusses all the Five-Level qualitative data analysis (QDA) principles. It illustrates the practical mechanics of the method in preparation for hands-on practice. The book also discusses the difference between strategies and tactics. It then focuses on Levels 1 and 2, which are concerned with the strategies and focuses on Levels 3, 4, and 5, the mechanics of translating between analytic strategies and software tactics. The book introduces all the versions of NVivo: the three Windows editions, NVivo for Mac, and NVivo for Teams. It also introduces the design or architecture of NVivo in terms of Five-Level QDA principles. The book then describes and illustrates the mechanics of translation in a practical manner in terms of real-world research tasks.
