ABSTRACT

Assisted reproduction technologies are now widely available throughout Europe and are generally socially accepted as part of the medical services received by the population. In some countries, such as the United Kingdom, France and the Netherlands and, after a delay in implementing legislation, Spain, statutory regulation controls the provision of assisted conception services. As part of the therapeutic research in assisted conception (TRAC) project a survey was undertaken to investigate the acceptability to those involved in providing assisted conception services of the introduction of some form of European technical and safety standards. In order to show whether some sort of European harmonization might be achieved on technical and safety standards, a questionnaire was designed. This chapter discusses the parts of this questionnaire. The first part of the questionnaire aims to characterize the respondents. Another part of the questionnaire addresses technology transfer and whether there was any control in the way that new technologies were introduced into clinical practice.
