ABSTRACT

There are many factors which affect the organisational outcome variable of job performance and the individual outcome variable of job satisfaction. This chapter examines the relationship of work to family conflict, family to work conflict, supervisor support and job involvement as predictors of these outcome variables in flight attendants. Maintaining a balance between the demands of the work-place and the demands of the non-work aspects of one's life has become a principal daily task for a steadily growing number of employed adults. In view of the literature and empirical evidence which advocates that workplaces utilising family supportive practices are more productive and result in greater profits. Specifically, it was predicted that flight attendants' job involvement would be positively related to work to family conflict and that supervisor support would be negatively related to work to family conflict.
