ABSTRACT
Both the sculptors who became involved with the Vorticist movement only decided to settle in London after growing up abroad: Jacob Epstein in the USA, and Henri Gaudier-Brzeska in France. Their vantage as outsiders, at a remove from British culture, may have encouraged them to develop a rebellious attitude towards prevailing sculptural conventions in their adopted country.
