ABSTRACT
This chapter is mainly about bilateral economic diplomacy and especially the United States. But it also serves to introduce the second half of this book, beginning with a reminder about its structure. The next eight chapters look at the multi-level nature of economic diplomacy. They examine how it is practised in four distinct levels: the bilateral; the regional; the plurilateral; and the multilateral. They also consider how the different levels interact with one another.
