ABSTRACT
This chapter tries to give a personal but hopefully informative outlook on the way international environmental issues are being prepared in the European Union and negotiated with other partners, notably in the UN system.1 It assumes a general knowledge of the EU institutions and of the UN system. But by way of introduction the next section briefly describes the institutions of the European Union concerned with the environment.
