ABSTRACT

This final chapter is intended to pull together the record of economic diplomacy, as expounded in this book up to now. It will not offer a forecast on where economic diplomacy is going in the new millennium. Economic diplomacy constantly changes in unforeseen ways - it is very much a moving target. The aim is rather to pick out some of the dominant trends, which have emerged in the 1990s and the early 2000s and which justify speaking of ‘The New Economic Diplomacy’. These trends will be illustrated from the case studies set out in the practitioner chapters.
