ABSTRACT

In a previous article (Sanchez-Aguilera and Majoral, 2000), we analyzed the demographic factors used in defining marginal areas in Spain. There we spoke of how the economic changes of the second half of this century had led to a redistribution of population and a far-reaching structural change. This we synthesized in a map entitled ‘Marginal Spain. Demographic Factors’. Here, we return to the evolution of the Spanish economy and its regional differences - inequalities which policies implemented to date are failing to resolve.
