ABSTRACT

More than forty-five years ago, Harold Hay led efforts to heat and cool buildings without utilities. This has been replaced by others waving the solar flag but working for utilities and wealthy tax evaders. Self-reliance, independence and conservation are replaced by over-consumption and USA Department of Energy programs. Instead, Hay built prototypes of inexpensive buildings heated and cooled passively. Today our establishment avoids such answers and promotes subsidized solar power plants and wind generators to feed their electric grid.

This chapter exposes how our work at Zomeworks has centered on extending the work of Hay and other solar pioneers. Examples like the Drum Wall project result in a testimony and manifesto on how we can create tools and equipment that extend our use of the sun and can provide liberty and freedom instead of dependence on government hierarchies and power grids.
