ABSTRACT

This chapter illustrates the playing fields and relationships of youth work and more informal politics. The direction of change illustrated by the horizontal axis shows phases of movement from old collective mobilisation and ideology of economic growth towards the risk society and facing challenges on an individual basis: in one way the failure of personal responsibility in margin, in another way the Fortuna of life politics in positive contingency. The vertical axis makes an attempt to visualise the positions of actors in youth politics and their methodological and operational repertoires in reference to old government and planning structures on the one hand, and in reference to modem sub-politics on the other, with reflexive action between the extremes. New politically active round table forums on the national level are in a position of contingency and playing with risk; and internationally on the field of Euro-networks and disturbance.
