ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the author's developing role as a dance movement psychotherapist (DMP) within a Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) School. DMP is important to the pupil's educational journey, as it gives them the time and space they need to move, explore and express their thoughts and feelings. Holistic intervention referral forms, review forms, DMP session logs and DMP journey forms have been devised to relate to the expectations of the various protocols and standards of practice that govern the school. The literature suggests that teachers and assistants who work within special education are being guided to take a more holistic and open approach to teaching, which is seen by the school to be beneficial for the pupils. The governing body of the school is responsible for monitoring the quality of education provided in all curriculum areas, on a regular basis.
