ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. By bringing together contributions from both Chinese and international scholars, the book offers readers different perspectives, rich empirical evidence and insightful analysis on China and the world economy. The first part of the book focuses on macroeconomy and deals with the real economy in China. The second part discusses trade and investment. Finally, the book emphasizes on industries and services; finance; innovation; and energy and environment. The book also discusses questions related to transitions in China, the future direction of the Chinese economy and its position in the world, the challenges for world economy in post-crisis world and the historical lessons and future prospect for the world economy. The book addresses these questions, brings together twenty policy-oriented research articles contributed by scholars from the Development Research Centre of the State Council of the People's Republic of China (DRC).
