ABSTRACT

This chapter critically analyzes the substantial environmental problem faced by most of China's cities, a problem which includes high levels of greenhouse gas emissions, pollution and congestion. It talks about the 'global challenges' that the world is confronted with on mobility and sustainable development. The chapter discusses the 'actionable levers' that may be used and identifies five 'game changers' that can really make a difference in the pursuit of safe, clean, connected, accessible and affordable modern mobility. It explains how it can be made to happen. The short answer to this key question is by inventing and designing a 'Multi-Modal Mobility Innovation Ecosystem' (MIE), the 'modes' referring to different ways of travelling and conveying goods. It suggests that by identifying some of the key issues to be dealt with in implementing a viable solution to the mobility social challenges, and proposing a way forward, this chapter should help search the answer.
