ABSTRACT
The turn of the 20th century saw a number of books written by female mediums describing romantic or erotic encounters with the inhabitants of Mars. This chapter will analyze three of these texts to illumine the interplay between science and metaphysical religion at the time and to better understand the development of later UFO religions.
