Cosmological myths about the creation of the universe from an egg appear repeatedly in both Greek and Indian traditions. While these myths appear to have origins pre-dating the significant development of commercial exchange between the Mediterranean world and India, Mitchell observes the notable convergence of key elements in both Greek and Indian narratives (among the texts that stand out are the Vishnu Purana, the Matsya Purana, the Laws of Manu, and the Orphic theogonies). This has important implications when considering the existence of not only commercial, but also of intellectual and cultural exchanges between Greece and India in Antiquity.
