ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a few arguments from the different chapters and discusses the possible options to close the normative gap in international law in the area of violence against women. Both the General Assembly and the Human Rights Council have adopted resolutions affirming the role of regional human rights systems in reinforcing universal human rights standards, as contained in international human rights instruments. A few regional consultations were also initiated by the former Special Rapporteur. For example, the Center for Justice and International Law convened the Americas Regional Consultation in March 2015. The principles of equality, non-discrimination and good faith in international law, inform and nurture State responsibility for observing the normative framework through which obligations and accountability emanate. The chapter also presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book.
