ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book describes work of the National Communication Association’s (NCA) Training and Development Division. The NCA’s Training and Development Division’s leadership requested the development of a slate of “Best Practices for Communication Training and Development” both for the Division and also as resource of guidance for the NCA. A special panel was created at the conference to solicit feedback from NCA’s training and development division membership. The membership re-tasked the task force into creating a language for practices that would do two things: First, establish a common set of core principles around which Communication Consultants, Coaches, Teachers & Trainers (CCCTTs) could advance their related pursuits. Second, ensure usability that would legitimize, distinguish, and reward those CCCTTs who recognized and adhered to those principles.
