ABSTRACT

This chapter applies Implicit Person Theory (IPT) to the context of organizational training. IPT argues that individuals tend to ascribe to either growth or fixed mindset. Individuals with a fixed mindset believe abilities are fixed and constant; individuals with a growth mindset believe abilities are malleable and subject to development. This chapter demonstrates the central role that trainers have in shaping these mindsets. Four messaging methods to influence the trainees’ receptiveness to the training are provided for consideration.
