ABSTRACT

An essential element of communication proficiency and training is responsiveness to social and cultural difference. Trainers should be prepared to accommodate differences in learning styles, cognitive styles, communication styles, and other cultural norms, and to manage power dynamics and mitigate the effects of stereotypes and prejudice through group facilitation processes. This chapter will guide trainers in developing programs that are culturally sensitive and inclusive, and that foster full participation, equity, and voice among group members.
