ABSTRACT

This chapter explores a number of issues confronting Europe's Internet business use. It discusses a number of issues impacting the current European Internet scene, the discussion then focuses on some of the global changes that have occurred in Internet content, and the methods for communicating that content, from the Internet's inception to the present. The chapter addresses how the problems associated with manipulating various types of Internet content, as well as the opportunities presented in the introduction of new programming languages and hardware, will drive the future of Enterprise Information Portals in Europe. It looks at some of the changes that have occurred in Internet content and communication. The Internet has emerged as the globally accessible, interactive, and individually addressable communications and computing platform. This emergence will allow European businesses the opportunity to implement strategies that bring them closer to their value chain partners and to "recast their businesses" to reduce costs and improve profitability.
